Welcome and thank you for taking your time to know a bit about me. I am a General Counsellor and Clinical Hypnotherapist. I have extensive experience working in the Mental Health Service, in hospitals and the community. I was a Psychiatric Nurse for 8 years and decided to pursue Counselling and Hypnotherapy because during my time as a Psych nurse I noticed clients who received therapeutic interventions responded quicker to recovery than those who relied on medications alone. They had someone listening, empathizing with them, exploring their issues, and working together to find the best strategies available. Trust! is very important in my therapeutic approach. I think it is a privilege when my clients put their trust in me, to provide them with a safe space to explore issues that are uncomfortable, troubling and sensitive. Hence, I ensure that my practices are evidence-based, and individually tailored in order to meet the clients needs in the best way possible.
I think our cultural, social and sexual differences, make us very unique, and significant to diversify our society. My background is Fijian- Indian. I was born in the tropical island of Fiji, where I grew up living amongst the Indian and Fijian communities. Although my childhood was full of adventure, it was also complicated, especially when I left Fiji, settled in American Samoa for 3 years than New Zealand for 10 years, and now finally settled in Australia. Growing up in a new environment was difficult, (especially during my critical adolescent development years) I felt I never belonged because I was different, so I was trying to find my identity, changing my personality and character, to feel accepted, so yes I experienced 'identity crisis'. Until, after many years I was told I was a global citizen, which means I experienced different cultures, and whatever I learned from those cultures ( that made sense to me) I used the learnings to develop my identity. What an eye-opener that was! I now feel so free, knowing that my identity is unique, ever-growing and changing. I am not a blank canvas, I come with a basket full of my own life experiences, the goods, the bads, the twisted, and that makes me human.
